About Hemp (backup copy)

What is Hemp and CBD?
“So what is CBD (Cannabidiol), anyway?” is a question I am asked every day. CBD is short for cannabidiol, and it is one of more than 60 compounds found in both HEMP and cannabis (pot). It acts on the body’s endocannabinoid system, creating physical changes in the body, which can be beneficial in many ways.

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a naturally occurring substance that has recently come into the spotlight for a number of reasons. It is a relatively new supplement that is still being researched, and while the initial results are promising, there is a lot of doubt, misinformation, and sheer confusion surrounding it.

Our Wellness Biscuits contain a proprietary blend of non-psychoactive cannabinoids derived from agricultural hemp that comes from stalk and seed. Like all other cannabinoids, CBD interacts with a pet’s endocannabinoid system—the central regulatory system known to affect bodily processes such as digestion, mood and sleep. Without any external influence, a pet’s body naturally produces its own cannabinoids that bind to cannabinoid receptors in both the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. Of all phytocannabinoids currently being studied, CBD has shown the most therapeutic promise in clinical research.

What are the benefits to using CBD?
CBD interacts with a pet’s endocannabinoid system - the central regulatory system known to affect bodily processes such as digestion, anxiety, mood, pain, inflammation and sleep. CBD also contains Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and contains antioxidants which can have anti-inflammatory properties.

Why use Austin and Kat for healthy dogs?
We love our pets…to help them, to make their day brighter is the least we can do because we get so much joy and love back from them…and when you see how they react you’ll realize the impact hemp can have on them.

Are there any adverse side effects of using the biscuits?
A & K biscuits are completely safe, non-toxic, non-habit forming. And, our customers and veterinarians using the product have reported no negative side effects and no adverse effects.

Can my pet take A&K if he is on other medication or supplements? When using any supplement, do your research. It could mean a quick phone call to your vet, or independently researching what you would like to give, but always be informed. You are your pets best advocate.

Is Hemp legal?
Yes. It’s exciting to say Hemp is legal worldwide (except Canada - go figure).

How was the recipe formulated? Did you work alongside veterinarians? If you’ve read the news you'll know that research in this field is limited but among the most exciting areas of scientific study today. For me, the proof is in the pudding. You know your pet and it will be obvious to you that there's something unique about cannabinoids. Dr. Mike was on hand to help with the formulations to ensure we were hitting the right dosage for our dogs and to build the right nutritional profile.

Austin and Kat Biscuits and your pet...
Animals’ bodies produce endocannabinoids and they are very much like the cannabinoids found in HEMP so the receptors found throughout the body all respond to the endocannabinoids found in our biscuits when they enter the body. These endocannabinoids help to regulate the body’s natural metabolism which in turn relates to all functions in the body – without homeostasis our feedback mechanisms stop working which results in disease, inflammation, autoimmune disease, epilepsy, and the list goes on. Often in disease states, our bodies need assistance with this regulation and need help outside of the body and hemp is a healthy nontoxic way to assist this process and treat disease and imbalance in the body of a human or animal.

Can Austin and Kat biscuits get my pet high?
No, Hemp contains naturally occuring CBD, which is a phytocannabinoid that is non-psychotoxic (there are no feelings of euphoria) and is completely safe.

What is the entourage effect?
It’s actually the “whole-plant effect,” HEMP bioactive compounds work synergistically together to optimize health and wellness.
